This ancient therapy includes massage to your head, upper back, shoulders, neck, arms and face – with or without aromatic oils. It can be adapted to suit all ages. Indian Head Massage is a versatile therapy that encourages a sense of calm and relaxation which is so necessary in our stress-filled lives.

You are seated in a comfortable upright chair with the therapist working from behind. The therapist uses a series of alternate soothing and invigorating movements starting on the upper back then progressing to the shoulders, upper arms, neck and scalp, finishing with gentle strokes on the face.

An organic massage oil is used for back, shoulders, upper arms and neck based on your preference and an oil suitable for the face used for the final part of the routine. Organic coconut oil is used for the hair, ensuring that your hair gets a wonderful treatment too! These oil choices can be discussed prior to treatment.

Although this treatment is enhanced with the use of oils, you don’t need to have oils in your hair. The massage sequence can be practised without oils through light clothing. However, massage oils can also be used to moisturise and nourish the skin and hair. Upper clothing is removed with a large towel offered for modesty.

Although many of the traditional techniques are still used, it has been adapted to suit the needs of modern European society. Indian Head Massage is enjoyed in clinics and salons, taken into the workplace, and adapted for use in schools, hospices and care homes.
